Moodle Ecosystem¶
The Moodle ecosystem includes more than the Moodle software itself. It includes documentation, community forums, plugins, themes, hosting providers, integration tools, and learning design practices.
Important parts of the ecosystem include:
- Moodle Core: The main Moodle application installed on the server.
- Moodle Plugins: Add-ons that extend functionality.
- Moodle Themes: Design packages that control the visual appearance.
- Moodle Docs: Official documentation for administrators, teachers, and developers.
- Moodle Community Forums: Community discussion and support spaces.
- Moodle Mobile App: Optional mobile access for learners and teachers.
- Integrations: Connections to authentication systems, student information systems, video conferencing, repositories, and reporting tools.
Trainee note: Moodle is flexible because it can be configured and extended, but flexibility also means you must manage settings carefully.
